How to Cope with Stress

As the school year continues overwhelming amounts of stress can start to cloud your brain. With an abundance of schoolwork and pressures to maintain high marks so you can get into university or show your parents a dazzling report card, your mental health can begin to suffer. However, there are many strategies to help minimize these negative effects and keep your mental health in check. So here are a few strategies that can hopefully help you out.

  1. Make time for self-enjoyment.

Although it is important to keep up with homework it is also essential that you take time for yourself. Whether that be sitting down and watching some TV, hanging out with friends, or even just going for a walk, it is key that you spend time doing things you enjoy. If you constantly spend all your time devoted to school and don’t make time for the things you enjoy there is no way you can be happy.

  1. Maintain a healthy diet.

Numerous studies show that fueling your body with nutritious foods is important for one’s mental health. Eating a balanced diet full of fruits and veggies will make not only your body feel better, but your mind too. Drink lots of water too!

  1. Exercise.

Make sure to exercise when you can. Exercise boosts your overall mood, relieves stress, improves your memory, and can even help you sleep better at night! So next time you have a few free moments and don’t know what to do, go for a jog or take a trip to your local gym!

  1. Surround yourself with supportive people.

Get rid of all the toxic people in your life! Surround yourself with friends who are supportive of you and love and care for you. It is so important that you have people who will listen to you and be with you through the hard times.

  1. Get adequate rest.

A good night’s rest helps to set you up for a good day. After hard days the body needs to take the time to rest and replenish the body. Make sure you are trying to get 8-10 hours of sleep per night. A long night’s sleep helps prepare your body for another day.

  1. Be kind to yourself!

Learn to love yourself and who you are. You are a smart, strong, and valuable person. Be nice to yourself and avoid criticizing yourself.
