Habibi Spotify!

Music is a universal language! As cliche as it sounds, the feelings and senses ignited when listening to music is undeniable. Spotify, one of the greatest music streaming services, finally expanded and recognized Arabic music. The Arabic language is spoken by 420 million people around the world, making it the 6th most spoken language. As of June 2018, Spotify had 83 million paying subscribers worldwide and now by adding Arabic music, they are expanding their sales.

In our school, many students use Spotify so I went and asked some students what do they think about Spotify just adding Arabic songs, although their slogan is “music for everyone.” Amina I. said, ” I listen to Spotify a lot, and when they included Arabic music I was happy because I can understand it,” and Aya K. said, “I don’t understand Arabic, but I like listening to songs from different languages because you get to learn more about their culture. I am even learning some Arabic words!”

With that being said, recognizing the Arabic music is an important step towards Spotify’s slogan “music for everyone,” and whether you just want to learn Arabic, or you just sway your hips on some killer beats, here are some songs you can listen to:
