Wireless vs Wired Headphones

The debate on wired and wireless headphones can be wired down to one solution, lifestyle. There are many different types of headphones such as: headsets, in ear, over ear, etc. With various prices and new technology consisting coming out, choosing the right type of headphone really comes down to what your lifestyle is as well as how much money you’re willing to spend.

A couple questions you can ask yourself before purchasing may be:

  1. Do I want to go wireless because I don’t want to deal with cords?
  2. Do I just want a pair of headphones to listen to music, even though their cheap and crappy?
  3. How much money am I willing to spend? Most likely the more I spend, the longer they’ll last for
  4. What would I use the headphones for? Athletics? Everyday wear?

The Big 5 for Wireless Headphones:

  1. Audio Quality : Most likely, wireless headphones will have less audio quality when compared to wired but that really depends on how much you spend
  2. Portability: It’s evident that most types of headphones are portable however some companies have implemented carrying cases as well as folding headphones to make headphones extra portable e.g. Apple AirPods carrying case
  3. Battery Life: Having a battery life may make or break whether or not you go wireless. Wired headphones don’t have this problem, but with this said battery life also depends on the amount of money you spend
  4. Price: When comparing prices between wireless and wired headphones, the majority of wireless are usually more expensive which is something to take into consideration
  5. Compatibility: Always remember to make sure your phone, computer, etc is compatible with your wireless headphones so you don’t have to return them

From a student’s perspective, I think that the headphones that were ranked top 3 of 2018 are definitely not a smart choice financially to invest in. Many students are usually seen wearing regular apple headphones which go for around $40 Canadian and Apple AirPods, which are wireless and have been quite popular as well, which are listed at around $230 Canadian. Personally, I was always using wired headphones, however going wireless was the best decision. No wires means no hassle to untangle which plays a huge role as well as how simple the AirPods are. When investing in headphones, think about why and what you’re going to be using them for.
