Dear Tanya, How do You Become an Optimist

Positivity is a hard thing to achieve in this life- there’s so much going on all the time it seems pointless to find the beauty in small things. It’s easier to be a negative person and focus on everything that could go wrong, but no one wants to be sitting around feeling constant sadness.

A lot of people find it hard to remain positive during negative situations, and I am constantly asked how I stay so happy all the time, although I may not be. Here are a few tricks to become optimistic and live a happier life.

The truth is, no one can be positive all the time, and if they are they often come off as someone who isn’t very genuine. However, I find the first step is to smile, even if you aren’t doing the best at the time. Smiling gives off the vibes to people that you are in a good mood, and when you do this it’ll cause other people to smile as well. If you can bring happiness to other people you will notice other people bringing good vibes and kindness to you as well. This will put you in a better environment, as you will slowly realize that some people will never be truly happy and you will find the people who truly make you happy.

The second step- find beauty in the smaller things. When you fall in love with things such as music, sunsets and the way the leaves change when it starts to get cold, you will find happiness in things that most people have grown accustomed to. Being able to find happiness in non-materialistic things typically keeps a person optimistic and leaves them with a feeling of satisfaction.

The third step- recognize what you truly want in this life. Once you find something you’re passionate about, it gives you something to look forward to and to stay positive about.

Being optimistic isn’t something that is supposed to be easy, but once you achieve a happier mindset you’ll notice the things in your life seem more fulfilling and beautiful.
