Demon Slayer, also known as Kimetsu no Yaiba, has recently taken off. It’s about a boy named Tanjirō Kamado, who’s family is massacred by demons. The only ones who survive are him and his sister Nezuko who has turned into a demon, but Nezuko proves that she is still his sane when she protects him from other demons. Tanjirō becomes a demon slayer and sets his mind on helping his sister turn back into a human.
Kadokawa’s Monthly Newtype magazine has announced Demon Slayer top in the fields of:

- Best female character (Nezuko Kamado)
- Best theme song
- Best director
- Best character design
- Best voice actor (Natsuki Hanae)
- Best voice actress (Akari Kitō)
This anime has also been praised by many other networks such as Monsters and Critics, Anime News Network, and many others for its animation quality and fight scenes.
Another reason why Demon Slayer has become so popular is the humour. As the storyline progresses Tanjirō meets many people along the way, for example during the Demon Slayer exam he meets Zenitsu and Inosuke. Zenitsu is basically the human form of anxiety, he has no self-confidence what so ever but somehow passed the exam. He’s a character that many of us can relate to and the decisions he makes, which is why he is so funny. Inosuke is a very stubborn demon slayer, he wears the head of a boar so people don’t judge him for his pretty face. Inosuke is quite funny because he doesn’t think about what he is doing often and is very competitive. Nezuko is also really cute and amusing when she is not fighting alongside her brother or sleeping she often just being cute with a dumbfounded look on her face. Demon Slayer is quite a comical anime especially when they are not fighting, this is another reason why it has gained so much popularity.
All of the characters and their backstories are each really well developed. When you meet the demons in the first couple of episodes, you notice that this isn’t your everyday anime with mindless antagonists. The writer Koyoharu Gotouge gives each of the demons their own backstories, when watching the anime you begin off hating them and then begin to feel sympathy for them after you take a look into who they are. None of them chose to become a demon, which is one of the reasons why the story is so developed. Another is why this isn’t like your everyday demon-fighting anime is because Tanjirō often show lots of respect to the them. In most animes with demons, the characters are so obsessed with killing every single one of them on the face of the planet, but in Demon Slayer that’s not Tanjirō’s goal. He just wants to protect everyone around him from getting hurt and would not kill unless he needed to.
This is a must-watch for all you anime watchers out there, after the first episode you will be hooked from the stunning fighting and graphics, humour and plotline. Currently there is only one season of Demon Slayer but Demon Slayer the Movie: Mugen Train comes out some time in 2020, just as for a heads up because you will be wanting more of it.
