Despite Semi-Final Loss, Still Hope for Senior Boys’ Basketball Team at CWOSSA

On February 20th, the WCI senior boys basketball team faced Sir John A Macdonald in the WCSSAA semi finals of their season, going into the game with a 13-1 record. The game finished with a final score of 70-62, in favour of the Highlanders. Although the result was not what the Vikings had wished for, the boys have another shot at going to CWOSSA when they will face Huron Heights Secondary School on February 25th in a consolation game.

WCI’s senior boys basketball team, coached by Mr. Nelson and Mr. Nickel, has been on a roll this season. They were ranked number two in WCSSAA going into playoffs with an outstanding 13-1 record.  Earlier in the season the Vikings faced off against the Highlanders and snuck past with a tight win with the final score of 75-71.

The Vikings came out in the first half looking fairly strong, maintaining a 10 point lead with large contributions from Sean T (#6) and Mark A (#3) who were both top scorers in the game for the Vikings. As the game progressed, the scores also became closer. SJAM came back from a 10 point deficit to eventually lead in points in the fourth quarter.

Despite some calls by the officiating crew that were questionable, the game was an all-out battle until the buzzer.  Anglo finished the game with 28 points and Sean had 12.

On February 25th, the Vikings face Huron Heights, for a chance to qualify for a consolation game. The game will be played on home court at 3:15 pm.
